Interlaken- January 14th and 15th
After a terrifying night of sledding, we awoke and got free breakfast at the hostel. There are tons of extreme sports to do in Interlaken, such as sky diving, paragliding, and bungee jumping, but I didn't want to spend the large amount of money to do them. A lot of people went paragliding, which was relatively cheaper, but still about 170 francs for a 15-30 minute ride. Two girls went skiing, which we all know I can barely ski down a green at wisp, there's no way that I would be able to ski the swiss alps, or want to. The rest of the group went to the International Ski World Cup, which coincidentally happened to be on Saturday. That is why Interlaken was so crowded that weekend. Brody Miller, the famous American skiier was participating in the event. We had to catch a bus, then two trains to get to Wenden, where the event was occurring. When we got there, it was such a cool set up. There were tents and food vendues set up all around the town. We then had to walk about 20 minutes to get to the finish line. We ended up getting a group rate of 25 francs instead of 40 francs to get into the race. It was so cool once we got to the finish line. Thousands of people were crowded around in the stands cheering for the skiiers. The local Swiss ended up getting first place, and Brody came in 6th overall. The whole day was a really fun experience overall being with people all over the country. After the race ended, we had to wait about two hours to get on the train back to Interlaken. That was by far the worst part of the day because it got to be freezing when the sun went down. Luckily we got back to balmers in one piece. We had dinner in the restaurant next door, where I ate my first local kebab. It was really good. Balmers had a night club right downstairs, so all of us went down there for happy hour, for buy one get one free drinks with a complementary 100 franc bar tab for our group. It was a lot of fun; we were celebrating one of the girls' birthdays. The funny thing is that every bar that we've been to plays American music, and not just because we're there. I guess American pop music is very popular in Europe as well. I ended the night pretty early because I was so tired, and I also was catching a bit of a cold because it was a high of about 30 degrees every day in Interlaken, and that was the high. I got a good nights sleep, and awoke the next morning, ate breakfast, packed, and checked out of our rooms. We caught the bus back at 11:30 pm. It didn't take us as long to get back to Lugano this time, except for the 4 people that we're throwing up on the bus. I wasn't even hungover and I felt like I was going to throw up from motion sickness. I need to remember to start bringing my Dramamine on every trip because the roads here are really windy. We got back to Lugano and it felt really good to be home. I didn't feel to well because of my cold so I just relaxed and watched a movie in my bed. I decided just to stay here and stream the ravens game instead of going to the Irish Pub because I was so tired. But there's another girl here from Baltimore so we watched the game together. Her dad sent her a picture of his seats on the 50 yard line second row lol. We pulled out the win so that's all that matters! Can't wait for next weekend to battle the patriots GO RAVENS!
